What Candidates for DC offices have to say about about the DC Archives
Answers to our 2020 Election Questionnaire
A few weeks ago, we sent an email to every candidate running for DC Council, State Board of Education, and ANC, asking them to answer two simple questions about the DC Archives:
If elected, how will you advance the erection of a modern, secure, and accessible facility for the District of Columbia Archives and Office of Public Records, as budgeted since 2015?
If elected, will you support reforms to the position of the DC Archives & Office of Public Records within the organizational structure of the DC Government , such moving the Archives/OPR out of the Office of the Secretary and to an independent agency governed by a board, to improve the management and accountability of the District's public records?
We received responses from 3 candidates for State Board of Education, 8 candidates for DC Council At-Large, 2 from DC Council Ward 2 candidates, and 1 from a DC Council Ward 8 candidate. No ANC candidates responded.
Check out their answers here. We hope additional candidates will respond between now and November 3. Happy Voting!
