The DC Archives need your voice at the Zoning Commission hearing
Send an email, testify, or speak at upcoming ANC meeting
One major regulatory hurdle remains for a dignified DC Archives, and your voice is critical. The Archives requires an update of the University of the District of Columbia’s campus plan. Before then, they need to get the approval of the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission, or ANC.
Ahead of these meetings, both commissions need to understand the value of this project to DC citizens, archives users, UDC faculty and staff, and neighbors. Sending a comment ahead of the following two dates can make sure this project stays on task.
First, you can speak up at the zoom meeting of ANC 3F on September 6, 2023 at 7pm. You don’t have to be a resident of ANC 3F to do so.
Second, you can testify via zoom at the Zoning Commission’s hearing on the “further processing” of UDC’s Campus Plan, September 21, 2023 at 4pm. To sign up as a witness, please click here. Pick the 9/21 hearing from the dropdown, and then Case 20-33B.
Finally, if you can’t attend either, it’s just as helpful to send an email. Address it to: zcsubmissions@dc.gov and mailto:commissioners@anc3f.com, and make sure you the subject line says that you support Case 20-33B.
You can write what you like, or you can use the sample letter below. What you say is less important than that you send an email. (Just say you support Case 20-33B)
Subject line: Case 20-33B Comment in Support
Dear Commissioners,
I am writing to express my support for Zoning Commission Case 20-33B, updating UDC’s Campus Plan for the new DC Archives building.
Housing the DC Archives at UDC is a tremendous opportunity for the university and its students. In addition to the UDC programs directly supported by the building, it will facilitate more course offerings and degree programs in history and library sciences, and new internships, and work-study programs. State Archives are often located at or near universities because of these mutual programmatic benefits. The Archives is key to understanding the history of the District and writing healthy public policy for our future.
Thank you for your support of this important project.
